You probably already know that every time you go to the hospital, your life is in danger. It's not just from your own personal health issues that take you to the hospital. But the hospital itself poses a serious threat. Hospital-borne infections and medical mistakes are two of the biggest killers in this country. So, if you must go to the hospital, do everything you can to get out fast. And a new study shows how to do it.

In this study, researchers followed 80 critically ill hospitalized patients. All of them had severe COPD. And all of them were on a ventilator. The researchers divided the patients into two groups. They gave one group selenium, manganese, and zinc. The other group received a placebo.

The researchers found that the supplements significantly reduced the patients' time on mechanical ventilation. It also reduced the time they had to stay in the hospital.

In other words, if you have to go to the hospital, taking supplements can greatly reduce the amount of time you have to stay in the hospital. There are several reasons for this.

First, sickness is often the result of nutritional deficiencies. So eating a healthful diet and taking supplements can help you avoid the hospital in the first place — and shorten your stay should you have to go.

Second, hospital infections attack those with nutritional deficiencies. The deficiencies deplete the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off the deadly infections.

Third, hospitals often cause nutritional deficiencies. A study in 2005 out of Poland found that people who stayed in hospitals often had worse nutritional readings when they left than when they arrived. This makes sense, as most hospitals don't concern themselves with nutrition. So the longer you stay in the hospital, the worse your health can become.

Almost everyone in the U.S. is deficient in trace minerals. It's a huge problem. And if you have to go to the hospital for an illness, you can be sure you're deficient. So make sure you're taking a multivitamin like Healthy Resolve every day. And keep taking it while you're in the hospital if at all possible. Some hospitals won't let you take your own supplements. You also should consider taking a trace mineral supplement, such as Trace Mineral Tablets by Trace Mineral Research (www.traceminerals.com).
